Julie Cohen spent most of her formative years
at the library in Rumford, Maine, reading everything she could
get her hands on and harbouring a secret crush on the male
librarian. She quickly figured out that in fiction, she could
have whatever man she wanted, and accordingly, she and her
best friend used every study hall to write passionate stories
about themselves and various celebrities.
Julie studied at Brown
University, gaining a summa cum laude degree with honours
in English. She became a peer writing tutor and drew a weekly
cartoon for the Brown Daily Herald entitled “Georgie and
Squid,” about
an Elvis lookalike with a pet cephalopod. During her junior
year abroad at Cambridge University, she fell in love with
the United Kingdom and moved there in 1992 to pursue a M.Phil.
at the University of Reading. Her thesis was a study of fairies
in late nineteenth and early twentieth century children’s
fiction.
After finding a career as a secondary school
English teacher, Julie started writing humorous, sexy women’s
fiction and romance. Her fourth novel was a 2004 short contemporary
Golden Heart
finalist and will be published in 2005 by Harlequin Temptation
as Dream Lover. Lately, she has gained a measure of notoriety
and national press attention for giving a series of seminars
on how to write sex scenes.
She lives in Berkshire, England,
with her husband. She teaches English and is teased daily
about her American accent. You can visit her website at
