A Kiss Before Dawn continues the story
of Lord Tristan Knight’s younger sister, Emily, and Peter Quick, the
young pickpocket she befriended in A Kiss in the Dark. The
year is 1827, and Peter is now a Bow Street Runner who has
been asked by his benefactor, Tristan, to hunt down a thief
who is terrorizing the Oxfordshire countryside. He reluctantly
agrees, even though he knows it will put him in contact with
his childhood love, Emily. After sharing a soul-stirring
kiss with her on the night of her eighteenth birthday, Peter
had fled back to London and left her behind, certain he could
never be good enough for the likes of an earl’s daughter.
His
defection hurt Emily far more than she would ever admit,
and it has made her both angry and determined to maintain
a distance between the two of them now that he is back.
But
when they are forced to work together to catch the thief,
they realize their love for each other is still there,
just beneath the surface of their animosity. Little does
Peter
realize, however, that Emily is directly involved in the
very thefts he is investigating. And though she has a compelling
reason for her actions, she is very much afraid that he
will never understand should he discover the truth, and she
will
lose the love she is only just now starting to realize
she still craves.
